Malaysian

Because Peninsular Malaysia shares a common history with Singapore, it is common to find versions of the same dish across both sides of the border regardless of place of origin, such as laksa and chicken rice. Rice is the most important staple food in Malaysia. A popular dish based on rice in Malaysia is nasi lemak, rice steamed with coconut milk and pandan leaves to give it a rich fragrance.

Our Customer Reviews

quote My wife and I visited Wellington while we are on our North Island holiday in New Zealand. While here, we craved some comfort food and we are so happy we did, because it led us to this amazing restaurant. We can vouch that the food is absolutely amazing. We actually had food from there twice (dined in once, and had an uber delivery for the other). We tried the chicken 65, chicken kothu roti/parota, chicken biryani and the murtabak. All the dishes were brilliant. Full of flavour and freshly made. We highly recommend trying this place if you are looking for some authentic south Indian or Malaysian food. Thank you to the owner for his friendly service. Worth supporting this nice little restaurant. Venue is clean, well lit and welcoming.

quote We Google searched, was between madam woo vs this place. We actually drove to madam woo. When we walked up the stairs to the restaurant, and looked at the menu which had wine, we turned away. As Malaysians, We wanted the Malaysian version of Malaysian food, not fancy Malaysian food. Came to Penang street food instead. Free parking at the front. It’s at the corner of a street. Nice setting on the inside. The manager - Owen was really personable. He is from Melaka. The food- char Kuey teow has “wok hei” and was perfectly done. Rendang was delicious ! Fried porn cracker was great ! The teh tarik was so thick and spot on like Malaysia taste. Kids also enjoyed the soya jelly bean drink which was very Malaysian. Other dishes we tried - honey marmite chicken. This was just ok, thought the chicken was a little overfried. But it isn’t quite the normal Malaysian food, we should have gone for other standard Malaysian food like the fish collar rice noodle soup or laksa. We didn’t as we just ate those 2 days prior at another Malaysian restaurant. We also ordered the golden sand squid - the salted egg portion was great, but we were a little full by then. And then we just chatted with Owen for a very long time. He is great, he definitely know the food business and how Malaysian food should taste - as he used to also work at restaurants. I’m a Malaysian foodie and I Would highly recommend this place if u are in town. You won’t regret it !

quote Authentic tasting Malaysian restaurant that is not very big, but is popular with people constantly ordering takeaways too. We arrived at dinner time and the place was full. Luckily, another family finished in about 15 mins and we got a table. We ordered the Chicken Laksa, Fried Keow Teow and Wat Tan Hor. Excellent value and the food came out fast

quote On the list for me top 3 Malaysian restaurants in Auckland (as of August 2025). Petaling serves up great food with great service. My pick to try are the butter floss range of dishes and the Kam Heong chicken. Make sure to book if you’re attempting to visit on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday 🤪
