Malaysian

Because Peninsular Malaysia shares a common history with Singapore, it is common to find versions of the same dish across both sides of the border regardless of place of origin, such as laksa and chicken rice. Rice is the most important staple food in Malaysia. A popular dish based on rice in Malaysia is nasi lemak, rice steamed with coconut milk and pandan leaves to give it a rich fragrance.

quote Our adventure started on a weekend when we were already exhausted…two consecutive days and nights spent moving apartments, topped off with a pub crawl the night before that left us hungover and unable to stomach anything. That’s when we stumbled upon the holy grail: Muthu’s. We’ve DoorDashed and UberEats’d from here before, but visiting in person is an entirely different experience, one I’d highly recommend. The food was phenomenal. I’ve had Tamil (South Indian) cuisine across 6–7 countries, and even back home in Dubai where there’s a massive Tamil diaspora, nothing comes close to what Muthu creates. His dosas and vadas genuinely rival what you’d find in Tamil Nadu itself. The vada is handmade (one of the only places in Wellington that doesn’t rely on frozen, premade vadas or dosa batter). Everything is fresh, authentic, and made with real skill. Muthu is not just an incredible cook, he’s also a genuinely great guy to chat with. Me and the Mrs will definitely be coming back whenever we’re craving a true taste of home. 🙌⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

quote The dishes were not bad, just need more kicks and oomph (re:salt & MSG). Even the sambal chilli need more heat. However, friendly service and nice decor, helped a lot.

quote Had dinner with my son 26 Oct 2025. He heard of the place from his friends so we decided to go there. We had Nasi Lemak with Rendang Beef, pineapple fried rice, and squid nestum. Hot Tea was complimentary. All the fare tasted great. Service was reasonably well. Atmosphere was just right. Asian and Kiwi customers were dining that night. All in all a very fine dining experience.

quote Authentic tasting Malaysian restaurant that is not very big, but is popular with people constantly ordering takeaways too. We arrived at dinner time and the place was full. Luckily, another family finished in about 15 mins and we got a table. We ordered the Chicken Laksa, Fried Keow Teow and Wat Tan Hor. Excellent value and the food came out fast
